The original, on Washington Park

Losanti opened on Race Street in 2019, across from Washington Park, and set the template every Crown Restaurant Group room since has been measured against. It is a boutique steakhouse in the literal sense: not many seats, one room, and a kitchen close enough that you can hear the grill working.

The name is the city's first — Losantiville, what Cincinnati was called before it was Cincinnati — and the restaurant treats that the way it treats everything else, seriously but without ceremony. There is no white tablecloth. There is an art deco mural that runs the length of the room, low light, a bar worth arriving early for, and steaks that arrive charred and rested and unfussed with.

Butchery happens in house. The kitchen brings in whole cuts, breaks them down, and dry-ages on site, which is the reason the board changes and the reason the same cut eats differently in March than it does in October. Pasta is made by hand daily. The lobster pasta and the twice-baked potato have been on since near the beginning because guests will not let them leave.

It works as a two-top on a Tuesday and it works as a private dinner for eighteen in the back room. Over-the-Rhine puts it a short walk from Music Hall and the park, which makes it a reliable pre-show table if you tell us when the curtain is.
